Archbishop Camomot’s tomb, museum to take in visitors every Thursday

For your day trips this summer, the Church wants you to consider visiting the tomb of a man who may yet become the next Filipino saint. The Archdiocese of Cebu has ordered all of its vicariates to organize regular pilgrimage tours to the tomb of Archbishop Teofilo Camomot, as a way to spread information about his life.

In a circular he signed last March 26, Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma said the “Duaw Camomot” will be part of the Archdiocese’s support for the cause for Camomot’s beatification, now pending before the Congregation for the Causes of Saints in Rome. Starting on Thursday this week, the Vicariate of the Most Holy Rosary will initiate the tour in the home of the Daughters of St. Therese (DST) in Barangay Valladolid, Carcar City.

The Vicariate of the Most Holy Rosary is composed of several parishes within Cebu City, including Sto. Rosario Parish, Basilica Minore del Santo Nino, Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, Blessed Sacrament Parish, Mother of Perpetual Help Parish, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, San Vicente Ferrer Parish and the St. Joseph Chaplaincy. The “Duaw Archbishop Camomot” will be composed of an orientation on the archbishop’s life, followed by a mass and a tour of his tomb and museum.

Pilgrimage tours will also be conducted by the Vicariates of our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Nuestra Senora Virgen de Regla, Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, Santo Nino, Immaculate Heart of Mary, St. Catherine of Alexandria, San Guillermo de Aquitania, St. John Mary Vianney, St. Anne, Our Lady of Sorrows, St. Gregory the Great, St. John of Sahagun and St. Pedro Calungsod. Archbishop Palma urged priests in these vicariates not just to attend the activities themselves but also to bring a parish delegation.

The visits will be done every Thursday and are part of measures to help speed up Camomot’s beatification process. Aside from the tours, Archbishop Palma has also ordered all parishes in the archdiocese to say a special prayer for Camomot’s beatification before the start of masses every Monday.
